How can we closely observe everyday life and its objects? What can we take from them—their beauty? Can we always see this beauty? And what even is beauty? First, we sharpen our perception to make it more precise!

Those who look more closely see more clearly. To capture and reveal the core of a subject, we sometimes need to let go of precision in the details and aim for a broader perception. The paradox: distance is needed to come closer. With this distance, the object becomes embedded in space and part of its environment. If we increase the distance further, space becomes landscape—deeper, wider, and at the same time more vague.

Landscape has always been a subject for painterly experiments: with color and its variations, with light and reflection, and with spatial structure. Landscape simply shows what is seen.

A “terrain vague” (undeveloped, open land) is a free place—or at least a place that has freed itself. Connections emerge… between the near and the far.

How does one compose an image?

Objects, subjects, spaces, landscapes, compositions… Where do you start? When do you stop? This course is about journey, painting, experimentation—and creative exploration.
